The name 'Mayah' means "Close to God". She is the Alpha Dog of the pack.
Mayah started her life in the sledding realm when I did in 2012. She was already 3 years old, but learned fairly fast. She doesn't always run with full dedication, something I learned was probably genetic when I met her brother who is the same way. She works hard when I really need her too, which counts. She is very smart! I started her in lead, but have moved her to wheel position. In wheel, she helps the lead dogs in training navigate the turns. Mayah has Zinc Responsive Dermatosis, a condition found in Northern Breeds that prevents them from absorbing the necessary amounts of zinc from their food. In summer of 2012 she lost much of the hair on her muzzle and had scabs and sores on her muzzle. But once it was diagnosed I started her on ZinPro and it cleared up. I was giving her zinc supplements daily until I had her on Nutrisource dog food for a year and found I no loner had to continue the supplements.
She's momma's little girl. I had her since she was 5 weeks old. We'll get in arguments at times (she's a very dominate dog), but we both love each other.
She retired from racing in November 2016. I've found that she has no desire in running with younger and faster dogs. She's happier just being a "cheerleader. She went to live with my parents and really enjoys being an only child!"
